# Bitliva Merchant API: trade crypto and gift cards

> Create customers, give them crypto addresses, buy and sell crypto, sell gift cards, and read your naira wallet with the Bitliva Merchant REST API.

The Bitliva Merchant API lets you offer crypto and gift card trading inside your own product. Each of your users becomes a customer with their own deposit addresses and crypto balances, while naira moves through a single wallet that you control.

## What you can do

> [card] [Create customers](https://docs.bitliva.com/guides/customers-and-wallets.md)
>
> Register one customer per user of yours and read their crypto balances.

> [card] [Generate wallet addresses](https://docs.bitliva.com/guides/customers-and-wallets.md)
>
> Give a customer a deposit address for each coin and network.

> [card] [Buy and sell crypto](https://docs.bitliva.com/guides/buy-and-sell-crypto.md)
>
> Quote a price, then buy or sell crypto for a customer in naira.

> [card] [Sell gift cards](https://docs.bitliva.com/guides/gift-cards.md)
>
> Submit gift cards for review and get paid to your wallet on approval.

## Base URL

Every endpoint lives under one base URL:

```text theme={null}
https://merchant.bitliva.com/api/v1
```

## Response format

Every response has the same shape: `status`, `message`, and `data` when there is something to return. Errors also carry a stable `code` that you should match on, never on `message`.

```json Success theme={null}
{
  "status": "success",
  "message": "Balance retrieved successfully.",
  "data": {
    "balance": "5000000.00",
    "currency": "NGN",
    "mode": "test"
  }
}
```

```json Error theme={null}
{
  "status": "error",
  "message": "Invalid or missing API key.",
  "code": "invalid_api_key"
}
```
